HURRICANE IKE

Yep...I am ready to leave Texas now for sure...hahaha. The storm was scary. We woke up about 5 am to roaring winds like I have never heard before. The kids woke up about 7...just in time to see our 30 ft. pine tree fall on the neighbors house. I couldn't watch. I thought for sure they were going to be dead. It ended up just clipping the corner of their house. Fourtunately we had two way walkie talkies. Joe just picked it up and started screaming hysterically "watch out. The tree's going to hit your house!" Poor Dave and Daun were dead asleep when this happened. They couldn't even see where the tree was coming from as they were prepared and boarded up their windows.

After the storm the neighborhood was a wreck. Several homes had damage and trees were just laying everywhere. Joe spent two days cutting trees. He was one of few who had a chainsaw. He had just finished up our tree when our good friends the Brautigams sent a text message that simply said "got chainsaw?" Being the good friend he headed right over. They had several trees down and damage to their home too.

We then spent the next three days cleaning the yard, BBQ-ing with the neighbors, and collectively praying for power. The BBQ's lasted for about a week. We have never ate better. Did you know that you can BBQ chicken nuggets and corndogs? They actually taste very good. Slowly the stores started opening but supplies were limited. Of course Ice was the main thing everyone wanted. Me I wanted plastic forks almost as bad...lol.

Now life is all normal all the way around us. There is only a handful of neighborhoods still with out power in The Woodlands (should it now be called just The Lands?. And yep you guessed it we live in one of those neighborhoods. Joe goes to work and Brock and I are back to school. Chase is out until HELL FREEZES OVER...that is when we will have power. They keep telling us it only 5 more days...blah blah blah. Whatever...I don't believe them. We are all just a little upset with the lack of honesty. If they had a plan and told us that they were not going to get here to fix it they should have told us so we could have left. We do have a generator (THANK YOU TURCOS) and it does run some nessasary items...the fridge, a lamp, small airconditioner window unit and TV...THANK HEAVENS! lol. It is after all premier week.

The kids are good. I think they think this is really fun. I have tried to keep my emotions undercontrol so they dont really feel the stress I am feeling....is it the loss of power or my first big micro exam this week...I am not quiet sure.

I will have pictures up soon.

Love you all

F is for.........

Fundraisers! (Sorry could not help it) I hate them. I do. To my neighbors that read this I must appologise. Most of you are school teachers by trade so maybe you have sympathy. Chase is foaming from the mouth to be the first one at your door this year. Every year he gets closer to his goal of winning the grand prize. This year he ONLY has to sell 75 FLIPIN' (OOPS another F word) boxes to get an I-pod touch, a wiggly car (It can hold up to 250 lbs so maybe something for us folks too), a tub of gooey-goo (my carpet is already cringing), a ride in a limo to OD on Double Daves pizza and all you can drink soda, plus ALL of the other small toys that will fill in the only clean area on Chase's carpet! Man am I sorry to be bothering you knocking on your doors. On the other hand what is that expression "Pay back is a what??" I will gladly repay you when your sweet little children get shammed into believing they too can own an I-pod touch!

Fair warning he is on his way!
